NUESTRA MADRE DE LA ALBORADA SCHOOL

In Nuestra Madre de la Alborada School, located in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the idea of beginning the Astronautics Club came up, inspired by the launch of the two Ecuadorian Satellites, NEE-01 PEGASO and NEE-02 KRYSAOR, by the first Ecuadorian Astronaut Commander Ronnie Nader Bello. 
This idea was the product of visiting the Planetarium and then explaining the students what the satellites were, what uses did they had, that Ecuador had a Space Agency, and the achievements that the Ecuadorian Space Agency, EXA, had. They saw the potential in the field of space science and the possibility of being part of this activity. As a result, the creation of the Astronautics Club of Nuestra Madre de la Alborada was made in July 2014.

Once requesting the membership and registering in the HERMES-DELTA system, EXA provided the applications that were needed for the system to work. After that, we connected via the Internet using Hermes-Delta's Internet to Orbit Wateway capabiltities and captured images of the earth from space. We could then follow, monitor, view and download images in real time from the NOAA satellites.

Thanks to the support obtained by the Ecuadorian Space Agency and the directors of the institution, they incorporated the equipment for academic teaching in the field of space science. This equipment and laboratories include astronomical laboratories, a flight simulator in virtual reality, a small fleet of drones and robotics labs.

They also  developed books of Astronautics, and incorporated Astronautics and Robotics as official subjects at the institution. The total population of pupils were involved in the study and development of these areas and projects, that is to say, from Preschool and Basic Education to General High School.
As a conclusion, and after a detailed observation of students, the data revealed the following:
  1. Students increased their academic average in the area of mathematics.
  2. It was also observed a higher degree of confidence in their ability to learn and solve problems
  3. Strengthen their academic skills and improve their predisposition towards research, resulting in a higher school performance.
  4. Increase in Self-steem and self-love among each one of them.
  5. Students awaken in scientific curiosity. They have continued to research on their own, and that the Astronautics Club.
